Umdloti Local

About this site

Updated

Umdloti Local is an independent guide to Umdloti and the Sibaya precinct, bringing together local host recommendations, visitor guides and dated sources. Its purpose is to help you plan a stay and understand the area.

Who writes it

The site is published under the Umdloti Local name. Local recommendations include contributions from the owner, who hosts accommodation in Umdloti. Guides also use published sources linked on the page. A sourced summary is not a claim that we personally visited or tested every place.

The site owner hosts the two apartments on our stay page, including renovated apartment 801. Links to those stays are commercial recommendations for our own accommodation. Check Airbnb for current reviews, availability and booking terms. Our guides also cover other accommodation and local businesses so you can compare options. The buy page contains property enquiries.

How a fact gets on a page

  1. It comes from a named source, and that source is listed at the bottom of the page with a link you can follow.
  2. It carries the date it was checked. Numbers without a date are worth nothing in a place changing this fast.
  3. If two sources disagree, the page says so rather than picking the tidier answer.
  4. If it cannot be confirmed, the page says unconfirmed. It does not guess, and it does not round a guess into a fact.

What this site will not do

  • Present old prices or opening hours as a live quote. Check directly with the business before relying on them.
  • Reprint photos from Facebook groups or other people's sites.
  • Take money to move a venue up a list. There are no paid listings. Businesses can keep their own listing right for free: see For businesses.
  • Invent a first-person story to make a page feel warmer.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, it gets fixed with the date of the fix. Corrections are a feature of a local site, not an embarrassment. A contact address is coming; until then, the RSS feed is the way to follow changes.

Independence

This site is not the Umdloti Smart Village NPC, the Umdloti Coastal Conservancy, the eMdloti UIP or the eThekwini municipality, and it does not speak for any of them. It links to them where they publish something.
