  1. Power Cut Hits uMdloti Beach and La Mercy After Substation Fault

    A severe fault at the uMdloti Beach substation cut power to uMdloti Beach, La Mercy, Desainager and nearby areas from the early hours of Wednesday 14 October 2026. eThekwini said supply to these customers was fully restored by its 10am update on Thursday 15 October.

  2. M4 Closed at the M27 Interchange for Six Hours on 13 October

    The M4 closed at the M27 interchange near Umdloti from 9am to 3pm on Tuesday 13 October 2026, a day later than first planned, so crews could place temporary staging beams for the bridge widening. Traffic was diverted via the existing on- and off-ramps.

  3. Sibaya M27 Intersection Opens as a Four-Way Stop

    On 30 September 2026 the Sibaya precinct manager told Salta, Marine Walk and uMdloti residents and visitors that the Sibaya M27 intersection is open. It works as a four-way stop, with stop signs in place and road markings painted.

  4. Planned Overnight Water Shutdown for Sibaya and Umdloti, 28 September

    On 25 September 2026 the Sibaya precinct manager warned of a planned water shutdown from about 6pm on Monday 28 September, expected to last through the night, with supply likely back on Tuesday morning. It covered all properties along Heleza Boulevard and the Umdloti area.

  5. N2 Upgrade From KwaMashu to uMdloti Is 96 Percent Complete

    SANRAL told eThekwini's Executive Committee on 22 September 2026 that the N2 upgrade between KwaMashu and uMdloti is 96 percent complete and scheduled to finish by 2 November 2026. The separate EB Cloete interchange project is 44.6 percent complete and due in September 2028.

  6. Umdloti Community Plants 1,000 Indigenous Plants at Village Entrance

    The Umdloti Conservancy and Umdloti Smart Village led an Arbor Week planting drive on 12 September 2026, putting over 1,000 indigenous plants in along the village entrance to screen buildings and restore the coastal forest belt.

  7. New Umdloti Community and Coworking Space Opens Above Victory Surf Shop

    Deon Bosman, owner of Victory Surf Shop, soft-launched an ocean-view coffee, community and coworking space above the shop, reported 31 July 2026.

  8. Umdloti Sailor Peter Blofield Finishes Strongly at ORC Nationals

    Umdloti-based sailor Peter Blofield placed sixth overall on handicap racing Regardless 2 at the ORC National Championships, reported 16 July 2026.

  9. Tongaat Hulett's Business-Rescue Exit Finalised

    Tongaat Hulett's corporate business-rescue process concluded on 14 June 2026 with a settlement in the Durban High Court. Vision Sugar Group and South Africa's IDC emerged as controlling parties. This concerns Tongaat's sugar business, not the Sibaya land.

  10. Umdloti Beachfront Staircase Repairs Begin After R110,000 Community Fundraiser

    Beachfront promenade fencing and collapsing staircase repairs began in mid-April 2026, funded by a R110,000 community fundraiser run through the March 2026 Balwin Sport Dolphin Coast Half Marathon.

  11. 451 Objections Lodged Against Sibaya Nodes 1 and 5 Amendments

    Reported 12 March 2026: 451 formal objections were lodged by Umdloti residents against the Sibaya Node 1 and 5 precinct-plan amendments, mostly via petition-style forms, between 29 November 2025 and 5 January 2026.

    Eskom stated on 26 February 2026 that load shedding is effectively over nationally, citing more than 400 consecutive days without cuts, dating back to roughly mid-May 2025.

  13. Sweetwater Stream Vegetation Clearing Stirs Debate Over Umdloti Road Widening

    Vegetation clearing near the Sweetwater Stream for the M27/M4 entry-road widening into Umdloti began 6 February 2026, prompting a community meeting on 13 February 2026 with Devmco's ecological consultant.

  1. Civic Groups Raise Red Flags Over Sibaya Nodes 1 and 5 Amendments

    Umdloti Conservancy and Umdloti Smart Village jointly objected to Devmco's Sibaya Node 1 and 5 precinct-plan amendments, reported 17 December 2025, arguing required environmental, traffic, sewer and stormwater studies were missing.

  2. NSRI Search at Umdloti Main Beach for Missing Teenager

    NSRI Durban, Ballito and Umhlanga crews were activated on 17 December 2025 after eThekwini lifeguards requested help searching for a missing 17-year-old male off Umdloti Main Beach. Two other bathers were rescued; the search did not confirm his location.

  3. Umhlanga's Main and Bronze Beaches Closed and Reopened for E. coli (Not Umdloti)

    Umhlanga's Main and Bronze beaches closed and reopened within about a day in December 2025 after a sewer pump failure compromised water quality. Umdloti was not named in this specific incident.

  4. HQ Sibaya Commercial and Office Node Launches

    HQ Sibaya, a commercial and office development within the Sibaya Precinct, launched on 20 November 2025, described by Devmco as merging lifestyle, business and wellness uses.

  5. Devmco Files Precinct-Plan Amendments for Sibaya Nodes 1 and 5

    Devmco Group lodged two precinct-plan amendment applications on 3 October 2025 for Sibaya nodes between Sibaya Circle and the Umdloti access road, covering land-use changes, a relocated transport hub and a Porsche Centre display area.

  6. Shark-Net Replacement Story for Umdloti and 36 Other Beaches Confirmed a Hoax

    A fabricated press release and cloned website falsely claimed shark nets at 37 KZN beaches, including Umdloti, would be replaced with an electromagnetic barrier by 1 August 2025. The real KZN Sharks Board confirmed it was a hoax.

  7. Solara Launches at Salta Sibaya

    Solara, part of the Salta Sibaya development within the Sibaya Precinct's Node 6, launched on 21 June 2025. Salta Sibaya is valued at roughly R2.5 billion and also includes the Capri Village over-50s lifestyle component.

  8. Hazelmere Dam Spillover Warning Reaches Umdloti River

    Heavy January 2025 rains prompted uMngeni-uThukela Water to warn residents downstream of Hazelmere Dam, which feeds the Umdloti River, of rising water levels. The dam wall had recently been raised 7 m to boost storage for eThekwini and iLembe.
