On 18-19 December 2025, eThekwini closed four central Durban beaches over E. coli contamination following a court order on sewage spillages. Umdloti was not among the closed beaches, though municipal readings in November 2025 had rated its water poor before independent tests in late December read clean.

Wiggins Water Main Bursts, Cuts Supply to South Durban (Umdloti Unaffected)
Two bursts on eThekwini's 750mm Wiggins high-pressure water main cut supply to Woodlands, Bluff, Lamontville and Mobeni from around 4 to 7 August 2026. The incident was in the south of Durban; no Umdloti-area outage was linked to it.
M4 Closed Six Hours Near Umdloti for Bridge-Beam Installation
