Short version: this site does not ask you for anything. There is no form, no account and no login, so nothing here identifies you. No advertising trackers, no data sold to anyone.

Who is responsible

The owner of Umdloti Local runs this site as an individual and is the responsible party for the purposes of the Protection of Personal Information Act, Act 4 of 2013.

What is collected

  • Server logs. The hosting platform records requests, including IP addresses, for security and to keep the site up. Standard hosting behaviour, not read by the site owner in the normal course.
  • Booking link counts. When you follow an Airbnb booking link, our analytics records the apartment, the page and the position of the link. We do not collect booking dates, guest details or payment information.
  • Stay link counts. When you follow a link to the Stay pages, our analytics records the page you came from and the part of the page the link sat in. Nothing else.
  • Share counts. When you tap a "Share on WhatsApp" link, our analytics records that it was tapped and on which page. The message itself, and whoever you send it to, go straight to WhatsApp and never reach this site.
  • Activity booking taps. When you tap Call, WhatsApp, Book online or the email address on the activities page, our analytics records which activity and which of those you tapped. The call, message or booking itself goes straight to the operator and never reaches this site.
  • Delivery order taps. When you tap Uber Eats, Mr D, a restaurant's own ordering link or a call button on the delivery page, our analytics records which place and which of those you tapped. Your order goes straight to that app or restaurant and never reaches this site.
  • Venue taps. When you tap a call, email, directions, website, WhatsApp, menu, social or delivery link on a restaurant, cafĂ© or shop page, our analytics records which venue and which kind of link. Nothing about you, and the call or visit itself goes straight to the business.
  • Emails to the listing inbox. If a business emails the site's listing inbox from the For businesses page, the message and the sender's address are kept only to handle that update and reply to it, and are used for nothing else. Tapping that email button is counted, nothing more.
  • Card scans. When you open the first-day guide from the QR code on a printed card, our analytics records that the page was opened from the card. Nothing about you or your phone.
  • Page view counts. The site counts which pages are viewed and which site sent you here, using the hosting platform's own analytics. It sets no cookies and stores no identifier that can be traced back to you or followed across visits. It produces totals, not profiles.

That is the whole list. The site takes no other information from you.

What is not collected

  • No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
  • No profile building, and no sale, rent or trade of your details.
  • No forms anywhere on the site. The only messages kept are emails a business chooses to send to the listing inbox.
  • No sensitive personal information is asked for. Do not send any.

How long it is kept

Server logs are kept by the hosting platform under its own retention period and are not copied anywhere else. Nothing else is stored, so there is nothing else to keep.

Your rights

  • Ask what is held about you and get a copy.
  • Ask for it to be corrected or deleted.
  • Complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa if you are not satisfied.

Who else sees it

The hosting platform, which serves the pages and writes the request logs. Nobody else. If anything on this site ever starts asking you for details, this page changes first and the date at the top changes with it.
