Reefside Mall, Sibaya

Reefside is Sibaya’s second retail centre, after Marine Walk. How the two compare with White Sands in the village is in the Umdloti mall guide. It opened on 1 October 2026, with a public launch event on 3 October. The centre’s own map pin puts it on the M4, about 2 km by road from Umdloti beachfront: 3 minutes’ drive there and about 6 back, before traffic.

What it is

Reefside describes itself as “a lifestyle destination where community and inspired design come together”, built around “home design, restaurants, lifestyle and leisure”. That positioning is different from Marine Walk, which does the everyday shop (Spar, Woolworths, Dis-Chem). Reefside is pitched at the slower visit: furniture and fabric showrooms, a sit-down lunch, a haircut, a boxing class.

The format is a single-level open centre with free parking at mall level, golf-cart parking and an outdoor children’s play area, per the centre’s site. The site also mentions live music and pop-up markets, but no dated programme had been published by 24 October.

The hours depend on where you look. Reefside’s website gives 08:00 to 18:00 every day. Its Instagram lists shops 09:00 to 18:00 and restaurants and cafes 07:00 to 22:00. Individual shops differ again: Weylandts opens 09:00 to 17:00 on weekdays and 09:00 to 16:00 at weekends and on public holidays.

The store directory on reefside.co.za, read on 11 October 2026, lists 26 names:

A directory listing is the centre’s word that a tenant has signed. It is not proof the shop is trading on the day you visit. Press coverage of the opening counted Weylandts plus 21 other tenants, so a few names may still be fitting out. Restaurant pages join Eat and drink once each one’s trading is confirmed by the restaurant itself. Four have so far: Nando’s at Shop 8 and Ocean Basket at Shop 19 on 12 October 2026, Vovo Telo on 13 October, and Shoots and Leaves, which opened inside Weylandts on 3 October and isn’t in the centre’s directory. Among the shops, Weylandts, Zorora Sofas, Gerald Wells (Shop 16) and BubbaDue (Store 11) have each said on their own channels that they’re open.

Kids Club, the indoor play space, holds its grand opening on Saturday 31 October 2026 from 09:00. Reefside says the first 70 guests get a free helium balloon and an ice cream.

The anchor, Weylandts, consolidated its Ballito and Umhlanga stores into one purpose-built, multi-level showroom at Reefside, designed by StudioLandt around KwaZulu-Natal materials: granite, basalt, concrete, sand, sea and sugarcane. It opened on Saturday 3 October 2026, two days after the centre, with Shoots and Leaves serving food inside.

What is confirmed, and what is not

Confirmed by the centre’s own site, read on 11 October 2026: the store directory above, its hours, the parking and the map pin on the M4. Confirmed by the centre’s Instagram, read on 24 October: the street address, 1 Heritage Drive, a second set of hours and the Kids Club opening. Confirmed by press coverage: the 1 October opening and the 3 October launch event, which included a live East Coast Radio broadcast from the centre. Not yet published anywhere: the centre’s size in square metres, a leasing agent, and which directory names were trading on day one.

What it means for Umdloti

Two things. A second sit-down dining cluster a few minutes from the village, which changes the Sunday-lunch map. And more traffic on the M4 at the Sibaya turn-offs, at the same time as the M27 interchange upgrade is still under construction. The Node 1 and 5 objections raised by Umdloti civic groups were partly about exactly this kind of retail intensity near the village; see Sibaya precinct for that thread.

The wider precinct brand has also shifted. Devmco now markets the whole thing as Sibaya Coastal City, with a map of every estate, centre and office. In September 2026 that map listed a Porsche centre, HQ Sibaya, hotels and a medical facility as “Coming Soon”, and a “Serenity” phase at Salta as underway for 2026.
