SANRAL briefed eThekwini’s Executive Committee on 22 September 2026 on its N2 and N3 upgrades around Durban. According to the city’s press statement, SANRAL KwaZulu-Natal head Dudley Mbambo said the KwaMashu to uMdloti project is 96 percent complete and scheduled for completion by 2 November 2026.
This is the same N2 project behind the overnight sign-gantry closures between KwaMashu and Umdloti; see N2 gantry closures.
The wider N2 programme covers 55km from the Lovu River to uMdloti, in 11 work packages worth about R19 billion. The EB Cloete interchange, a separate package, is 44.6 percent complete, with completion expected in September 2028.
Treat 2 November as SANRAL’s target date. Check the status page before a night drive on this stretch, in case further closures are announced.
