Umdloti swimming conditions change. Choose a beach where lifeguards are on duty, follow their flags and instructions, and check current restrictions before entering the water. This follows NSRI’s water-safety guidance.

Check three things before swimming

  1. Current notices: a closure or restriction takes priority over a guide or a previous test result.
  2. The sample date and location: the status page shows dated water readings. A sample from another beach or a previous week cannot establish conditions at your swimming spot today.
  3. Sea conditions and supervision: ask lifeguards where swimming is permitted. Weather, waves and currents can change during the day.

What about the tidal pool?

The Umdloti tidal pool is a natural coastal feature, not a fenced swimming pool. Rocks can be slippery, depth changes and waves can enter. Keep young children within arm’s reach and follow lifeguard advice.
