Day plan
A perfect day in Umdloti
Updated · Sources
In short
One way to spend a whole day in Umdloti without the car: sunrise on the beach, coffee with a sea view, the tidal pool at low tide, a long lunch, a walk to the river mouth and sundowners by the sand.
Everything on this plan is within a walk of the beachfront. The sunrise, the low tide and what is open update for today when the page opens. Every stop links to its own page, which names its sources.
-
Sunrise
Umdloti Beach
The beach faces east over the Indian Ocean, so the sun comes up out of the sea. Dolphins are a common sighting off this coast all year.
-
From 06:30
Coffee at FOAM
A small coffee shop on North Beach Road whose own Instagram claims 180° sea views. It opens at 06:30 every day.
-
Low tide
The tidal pool
A natural rock pool at the south end of the main beach, with its own lifeguard tower. At low tide the rocks are worth exploring. Check the tide, local notices and lifeguard advice before you get in.
-
From 12:00
Lunch at Bel Punto
A family-run Italian and seafood restaurant with a large terrace and uninterrupted ocean views, open from 12:00.
-
Afternoon
Walk to the lagoon
Walk north along the sand to where the Mdloti River meets the sea: a mangrove-lined lagoon with resident fish eagles and waterfowl. It is unpatrolled.
-
Sundowners
SandBar
A 20-seat cocktail bar beside a 90-seat restaurant, about 20 metres from the beach and open until 22:00.
-
Dinner
Tasca Pizza
Thin-base pizzas, pastas and tapas on North Beach Road, where its own site promises eating alfresco with the Umdloti sea view.
