Umdloti Schools

No major school sits inside Umdloti. Families send children south to Umhlanga and La Lucia, and a few go north to Ballito.

One name causes confusion. Umhloti Primary School exists, but it is a public no-fee school in Coniston, Verulam, well inland from the coast, with about 706 learners. It is not in the village.

The two nearest

Reddam House Umhlanga sits on the outskirts of Umhlanga Ridge at 21 Preston Drive, Prestondale. It takes pupils from age 1 to Grade 12 across an early learning school, a preparatory school and an IEB college, on a 17-hectare campus with boarding and day options. By road from the village it is about 12 km and around 13 minutes without traffic.

Crawford International La Lucia was established in 1999. It has a preparatory school at 79 Armstrong Avenue and a college for Grades 8 to 12. By road it is 14.3 km and about 17 minutes without traffic.

Both distances come from OpenStreetMap routing and assume a clear run. Umhlanga’s morning traffic adds to them.

Umhlanga College is Reddam House

Lists of Umhlanga schools often name Umhlanga College and Reddam House Umhlanga as two options. They are one school. Inspired Education bought Umhlanga College in June 2016 and rebranded it Reddam House Umhlanga, keeping the campus and the phone number. Treat any list that carries both names as one entry.

Further up the coast

Ashton International College is in Ballito, on Albertina Way, about 24 km by road and roughly 21 minutes without traffic. It runs from an early learning centre at age 2 through to Grade 12 and teaches both the IEB and Cambridge curricula.

Curro has no campus in Umhlanga, Sibaya or Umdloti. The nearest is Curro Mount Richmore at Salt Rock, about 29 km and 26 minutes by road, taking pupils from three months to Grade 12. Its school bus routes run between Westbrook and Palm Lakes and do not reach Umdloti.

Grace College is not a local option. It is in Hilton in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, on Hilton College Road, and there is no school of that name in Umhlanga.

What Sibaya may add

Devmco, the master developer of the neighbouring Sibaya precinct, told Moneyweb in November 2024 that a new school, a hospital, other healthcare facilities and possibly a private university are on the cards for the wider precinct. Moneyweb had reported in 2018 that ADvTech, the group that owns Crawford, was looking at a school and a university campus inside Sibaya. Nothing is built or contracted. Treat it as pipeline interest until a school group or Devmco confirms a signed deal.
