Umhlanga is also the transport and retail hub for the whole corridor, with Gateway Theatre of Shopping and Netcare Umhlanga Hospital both there.

The Umhlanga Promenade, a roughly 1.5-mile beachfront walkway lined with cafes and restaurants and anchored by the Whalebone Pier, is about 15 minutes from Umdloti, as is Hawaan Forest, an ancient dune forest with a 2 km walking trail.
